One who do 'Thiyyattu' for Lord Ayyappa are called 'Thiyyadi Nambiar'. There are 8 'Thiyyadi Nambiar' families. They are 'Elamkulam', 'Cheruppalassery', 'Mundamuka', 'Mulamkunnathukavu', 'Thayamkavu', 'Irinjalakkuda', 'Malamalkavu', 'Perumpilavu'. Their house is called 'Thiyyadi'.

In the ' Thiyyattu', there will be 'Kalam pooja', 'kalam pattu' and 'Thottampattu'. In 'Kalam pattu', 'Thiyyadi Nambiar' tells about the story of Lord Ayyappa . The appearance of 'Thiyyadi Nambiar' is of 'Nandhikeswaran'. The belief is that 'Nandhikeswaran' tells the story to Lord Ayyappa'. a sword will be there on a table then, which is considered to be very special.

All the' Thiyyadi Nambiar' families consider the 'Thiyyadikavu' as 'Ayyappan kavu'. Worshipping the 'Kalam' there, is similar to worshipping Lord Ayyappa in a temple. Its believed that there is a 'Thiyyadikavu' near 'Mankadapallippuram' in 'Perunthalmanna' thaluk.
