Description:

Karanayil Madom is a famous temple located in a beautiful village called Ettumana in Thrissur District. Dedicated to Vishnumaya Chathan Swami, the temple is noted for its religious rites and pujas. Kovinda Muthappa, son of Keshunni Vaidyar, Karanayil Madom had meditated for years and years and he was granted the vision of Chathan Swami, in the form of a supreme brilliance, as an embodiment of spiritual strength and valour, believed to protect this world from all the calamities and disasters of Kaliyuga. The belief is that the Hindu trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva sent this power to the earth. Due to his closeness to Mahavishnu, he is called as Vishnu Maya, as he was born in the woods he is called Chathan. Kovindamuthappa is venered as the teacher and guide of Karanayil Madom.

People from different parts of India visit this place in the hope of finding a solution for problems like mental disorders, failure in business, profession, and other problems related to their day to day life.

K V Padmanaban Swami, hailing from the family line of Kovindamuthappa, is the chief of Karanayil Madom now.

The temple has deities of Devi Bhuvaneswari, Nagarakshas and Brahmarakshas. Apart from this, the temple houses the images of about three hundred and ninety Kuttichathans. Kukshikalpa, the holy shrine of Kovindamuthappa, is another attraction in this temple.
