VARAMSASTHAMKOTTA SASTHAVU

Prathishta: Lord Ayyappa

Dist: Kannur

Thaluk:

Panchayath:

Festival:

Importance / Main offerings:

Description:

The presiding deity in this temple is not Lord Ayyappa. Lord Siva is the main deity here. But Lord Ayyappa has more importance in this temple. The other sub deities are Lord Vinayaka and Goddess Bhadrakali. Out side the temple there is the presence of the deity 'Pottan' also.

In this temple Lord Ayyappa resides with a lotus in his hand. There is a belief. Once Goddess Parvathy wanted to see the son of 'Hari and Haran'(Ayyappa), then Lord Ayyappa appeared before Parvathy. Lord Ayyappa called devi 'Amma'(mother) and began worshipping her there.

The temple was owned by a brahmin family. This temple was also used for many purposes long ago. It acted as a court and used for certain tests like water test, fire test, poison test...etc. This temple was destroyed in the season of 'Padayottam'. Later it was re-built by natives.
