Description:
The presiding deity in
this temple is Lord Ayyappa. This temple is a
very old temple. The 'Mugal' soldiers were grouped
together near this temple, many years ago for
attacking thiruvananthapuram. But the soldiers
didn't make any harm to this temple ,because
they were devotees of Lord Ayyappa and so they
were fearful.
This
temple has no roof. The sub deities are Lord Siva,
Lord Vinayaka , Yakshi, Nagas and Madan. The temple
has 'Valiambalam' and 'Aanappanthal'. There is a
story behind the 'Parayeduppu' in this temple.
'Lord
Ayyappa' in this temple and the Bhagavathys in
the temples 'Mookkolakkal' , 'Attukal' and 'Konchiravila'
had a quarrel . The three sisters told Lord Ayyappa
that they will come to see him and there is no need
for him to come and see them. Then they asked Ayyappa,
what he is going to give them ,when they visit him.
Then he told that he will never return them without
giving anything and for that he is even ready to
implore. After saying this ,he started from there
and took an avathar at 'manakkad'. Its believed that
'Parayeduppu' is for keeping the word given to
three sisters.
During
these days ,when Lord ayyappa reach 'Mookkolakkal'
, 'Attukal' and 'Konchiravila' , the doors
of the the temples will be closed. When the Bhagavathys
reach 'Manakkad' during their festive season , Lord
Ayyappa will give them the rice ,which he recieved
from 'Parayeduppu'. Its the belief. |
