Presiding deity is dharma sastha. In this temple the deity worshipped with a pot full of 'Amritham' on the right hand. The temple is owned by 'Kanyakulangara Madam'.

There is one story revealing the formation of this temple. In ancient times, this temple was not popular at all. But one lady used to visit the deity and worship without fail, even without having her food before worshipping. She used to pray for her marriage. Several years waited and nobody came for marrying her. The villagers began to tease her calling 'Kettakomari' and with immense disappointment, she has committed suicide by jumping into the temple pond. From that incident, the pool was known as 'Kanyakulam' and thus the temple got the name 'Kanyakulangara'.
